Sadie first divided the large room into zones, each designed for different types of play. At the center, an architectural piece is an all-in-one bookshelf, barrier and reading nook. Nearby, an interactive wall with pegs and magnets can transform and grow. All pieces were all custom-designed and fabricated in collaboration with a local furniture-maker who was up for the quirky project.
An illustrator by day, the homeowner was energized by the idea of adding mural work into her son’s new space. Sadie offered suggestions on layout and color, and the client executed with her own signature style. The resulting artwork is a sprinkling of joy on top of a magical space.
Every area is utilized without inviting clutter—there is still plenty of room to set up new toys and imagine worlds. A unique curation of items is peppered throughout, all from artisan companies. The resulting look is a sweet mix of Montessori and Scandinavian styles, with light wood tones and pops of color. The space feels universal, thoughtful and considered, with a place for every item and space for imagination.
