The original kitchen was undersized, with laminate finishes and outdated appliances. Dawn knew that this space could be brilliant and functional. She began by updating the layout—adding space, storage and a transitional archway to create a lovely vista from dining room to kitchen. Large-format checkerboard floor tile separates the rooms, perfectly centered within the archway.

Inset cabinets in a chocolate-mauve tone throughout the kitchen are both pretty and practical. Beaded detailing adds uniqueness—unfussy but still a little glamorous. New Thermador appliances were installed along with a minimal white range hood, intentionally quiet in an eclectic space. Special attention was paid to the range wall, with a number of different finishes coming together to create a handsome cooking area.

Moments of glass cabinetry and open shelving give the client space to show off her collected china and heirlooms. Inlaid brass shelving and hardware pairs perfectly with unlacquered faucets; the client fell in love with this living finish and its natural patina.

A new coffee bar was essential and offers the perfect space to make a special cup. Hidden pull-out shelves store coffees and teas, and a covered beverage center houses all manner of creamers. Above, a backlit integrated shelf displays artful objects.

In the Art Deco-inspired dining room, plentiful seating: a custom asymmetrical banquette in practical performance velvet along with Klismos-style chairs at the table. Block print pillows on the banquette inspired much of the color choices throughout the space. Luxe sheers let light in and offer privacy when desired. A sideboard provides extra storage, and a Samsung Art TV feels right at home alongside the client’s original artworks.

The powder room is a jewel box of rich blue-green, with crane-printed Italian silk wallpaper as the star. Materials mix among the plumbing fixtures and vanity—a play of brass, polished nickel and marble will wear beautifully. Blue velvet window treatments complete the space.
