Dawn and the clients immediately hit it off upon meeting, recognizing the solid bones of the house and the investment needed to bring them into contemporary times. The couple decided to begin renovations in the primary and guest suites, prioritizing their personal spaces to recharge and host friends.
To contrast with the plan for the bath, the client desired a light and bright primary bedroom. The walls were painted white and ceilings vaulted to add height and delicate drama. In the styling, modern choices contrast with vintage—a one-of-a-kind damask rug sets the tone for thoughtfully-placed details. The metal four-poster bed is modern yet classic, and adorned with luxurious, custom-trimmed mohair pillows. At the foot of the bed, a custom-made bench is embellished with beautiful metallic gray beading. Red accents are brought in to add contrast: a bold, angular chair in velvet and dramatic floral window treatments. A showstopping custom ceiling light fits perfectly in the new vaulted ceiling. Off the bedroom, patterned crane wallpaper in the water closet pulls in subtle elements from the larger bath design. Blue tones and reeded details echo throughout.
In the primary bath, blue is a powerful theme woven into a multitude of textures from tile to wallpaper. Blue is offset with gold and wood tones, creating a clean, classic feel and a moody, hotel-like atmosphere. In every element, there are special details to be found. The textured wallpaper was chosen in vinyl to repel heat and moisture.
Reeded cabinetry throughout the bathroom brings an extra level of richness, along with Roburn lighted medicine cabinets and quartz countertops. Hardware and styled pieces in mixed finishes create an interesting, unexpected visual dynamic. Dawn took advantage of every nook and cranny in which to design—in the alcove, a handmade cabinet hides towels and supplies, while custom metal shelves house display-worthy self-care containers.
