In the intervening time, the lifestyle and needs of the homeowners had changed, and they wanted the bedroom to be a quiet, restful retreat, away from commotion.

Having positioned a chimney in the room during build with the hope of later opening it into a fireplace, now came the time to create the cozy hearth including marble surround. The custom bed is locally made, with luxe upholstery. In choosing the large chandelier, Linda wanted something that would be a light fixture not just for the bed, but for the whole room. The openness of the design allows the scale to be large without feeling clunky or sacrificing viewing space. The round shape gives softness to an otherwise square room. Custom window treatments with closing draperies allow for privacy when desired.

The client, with a keen eye for detail and a desire for unique and functional objects, was wanting for a spot to steam and house her next-day outfits. Considering the difficulty of maneuvering an ironing board every morning, Linda had an epiphany to create a custom valet space. The functionality of the resulting valet box can’t be understated. Upon opening, the box has an extension valet bar where items can be hung and steamed, front and back, with space in between. Linda considered the materials of the box carefully, ensuring that the interior can handle humidity and dampness. The steamer itself resides in the drawer below, with room for a small iron if desired. Electricity is self-contained within, so everything remains plugged in and closed. Above all, the valet box looks like another beautiful armoire or jewelry box—and only reveals its depth of functionality when opened.

A custom closet was added into the bedroom, allowing ease of organization and for the adjacent hallway to be wallpapered in a luxe design from Schumacher. Great care was taken throughout the space to choose the right textures, evoking interest without feeling too loud. The overall effect of the room is evoking a strong sense of neutrals; a comfortable space that is long-lasting.
